Al & Jan's has been a staple in my family for years and years. My last visit was a week ago, and we dined in. The place was busy busy, and we waited maybe 15 minutes for a table for 4.
I prefer the cod, as does my husband. My parents order the halibut. Both are battered to perfection and tasty. When we dine in we usually order onion rings and coleslaw, too.
They're great for take out as well, wrapped in newspapers and with a real English feel.
A must try if you're in the area! -

Sadly the previous owners have sold the place. The new owners took over Sept 30. Still on a difficult learning curve, chips were underdone, fish was mushy and and the batter was just not right so not crisp at all. Some coleslaw would have been nice. But lets give them a break, time will tell. BTW, the service was top class.

Ok, Cod and halibut tastes the same! Shrimps are ok and the oysters are huge!
The portion is big but the taste is just ok! I felt that the oil was too much and I am not a fussy person!

I've only sat down for a meal here once, but have gotten take out from here countless times for over a decade and have never had a complaint. Friendly family owned business and the best place for halibut in the area by far!

I decided to give this place a try. We ordered a cod and a halibut fish and chips combo. Fish was perfectly cooked. Batter was light and crispy. Fries were the fresh cut variety. There was unlimited tartar sauce to go with the food.
Service was minimal. No complaints there as it is not a place that you need much service.
I would give the food 3.5 stars as I have had better elsewhere to compare to.
